Are you interested in learning how to make your own oboe reeds from scratch? Maybe you're a reed maker who feels stuck with sub-par reeds and can't figure out why? Or perhaps there are significant gaps in your reed making knowledge. Whether a beginner with no experience or someone who has made reeds for years, this camp is for you!
Experience a burst of concentrated time spent on furthering reed making skills to enliven, inspire and educate your advancement in the craft.
Focus on knife skills, technique and sharpening; cane selection (dealing with soft/hard cane), diagnosing and troubleshooting reed issues, mindset of the fruitful reed maker, a focus on being the most flexible oboist and reed maker in order to get the most enjoyment out of your musical life.
This estimate is at $40/hour, a competitive price for private instruction.
This is a modest estimate that you'd only use 15 staples and pieces of shaped cane during the three days of camp. So this estimate could easily be higher in actuality.
Your instructor has 20 years experience making oboe reeds and currently produces about 1,000 reeds a year. That's a lot of reed making. Then consider the percentage of relief you'll feel once you can start making your own reeds work better for you.
